Is Football For Fat Loss for me?
What is Football For Fat Loss?
A weekly six-a-side football league where losing weight is part of the game. Every match is decided by combined goals — the goals your team scores on the pitch plus the scales goals your team earns from that week's weigh-ins. Win the combined score and your team takes the league points.
Do I need to be good at football?
No. Scales goals count just as much as pitch goals, so the weight you lose during the week can win matches your team's feet can't. Plenty of players haven't kicked a ball since school.
What if I'm not fit enough to play?
Sessions are built for people starting out, not athletes. You set your own pace, and your weigh-in still earns your team goals in any week you play little or none.
Who can join?
The league is for players with a BMI of 27.5 or above when they join — it's a weight-loss league, so that gate keeps it fair for everyone. You can check your BMI for free with the NHS BMI calculator.
Why do you use BMI?
It's simple, free and widely accepted — no special equipment needed. It's not a perfect measure of any one person, but it's a fair, consistent entry gate for a weight-loss league.
How it works
Where can I find the club rules?
The full club rules — weigh-ins, scoring, match rules and discipline — are on the rules page.
How does the scoring work?
Each match: pitch goals + scales goals = combined goals. The team with more combined goals wins the match and takes the league points (a draw shares them). The league table ranks teams on those points, with separate pitch-only and scales-only tables so you can see where each team earns theirs.
How does my weight loss become goals?
You weigh in once a week. Being below your season-start weight earns a bonus, hitting a 5% weight-loss milestone earns a big one, and healthy-habit check-ins during the week add more. Everyone's weekly scores add up into your team's scales goals — the club rules have the full scoring breakdown.
What happens at a session?
A private weigh-in first, then the six-a-side matches. Your weigh-in is between you and the scales — teammates only ever see goals, never your weight.
Who sees my weight?
Only you and the club admin. Team standings show goals and percentages, not weights — your numbers stay private, and our privacy notice covers exactly how your data is handled.
What if I miss a week?
Nothing bad happens — you just don't add scales goals that week. If you can't make the match, tell your captain and come to the weigh-in anyway if you can: you'll still contribute.
Membership & payments
How much does it cost?
Membership is £29.95 / month, paid by Direct Debit. That covers your weekly session, your place in the league, weigh-ins and the player portal.
How do payments work?
By Direct Debit through GoCardless. You enter your bank details on GoCardless's secure page — we never see or store them — and you're protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.
Am I tied into a contract?
No — membership runs month to month. To cancel, email info@footballforfatloss.com and we'll stop your Direct Debit. The full membership terms cover cancellation and your 14-day cooling-off right.
Is there a waiting list?
The league holds 54 players — we're pitch-limited. Once it's full, new sign-ups join the waiting list and we get in touch in order as places open up. Sign up here.
Playing
Where and when do you play?
We're based in Westleigh Park. There's a map and directions on the homepage.
What should I wear?
Comfortable sports kit and trainers or boots to suit the surface. No branded kit required.
What happens if I get injured?
Keep coming to weigh-ins — your weight loss still earns your team scales goals while you're out. Let your captain know and come back to playing when you're ready.
How do teams get picked?
The club runs a draw that spreads players evenly across the teams — you don't need to bring your own team, and solo sign-ups are the norm.
